Meet Jennifer Martinez | President of JLM Communications

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a communicator, I love the role my job plays in impacting change. By sharing stories about the good that are happening through organizations and businesses, and also calling out for specific needs, I can directly see how the work I am doing is helping. While there are so many strong feelings and sides in this world, there is also so much good. People want to help others. We love seeing success stories. I am thankful to be able to be a connector to make some of these happen.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the President of JLM Communications. JLM Communications was founded after I had my second child when I wanted a little more flexibility in terms of a work life balance. I didn’t really know where to start. I just knew that I was in a role that was quickly becoming volatile. My husband knew I was unhappy and told me it was time to leave. We would figure out our next steps. More than anything, he didn’t want to see me so unhappy. It was terrifying making that leap, but I did it! I resigned. I sent a few emails to people I’d met telling them I was taking on some freelance public relations work. Within a few weeks I had two retainer clients and JLM Communications was born. I’ve now been in business for a decade and love being able to work with clients of all types in all industries. I keep true to not taking on clients or accounts that I don’t feel a connection with. It is hard enough to get coverage for clients in this ever changing media landscape so I really need to believe in what I am promoting. My firm provides public relations services to small and mid-sized businesses as well as nonprofit organizations. I love being able to work in different sectors. It allows the creative juices to flow! I also love being able to put together events and promotions that. benefit both businesses and nonprofit organizations to elevate clients. I am a firm believer in that together we can accomplish more. I bring that to table each and every day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This may be a little bias, but I definitely have a few favorite restaurants. Coffee and light bites are perfect at Johan’s Joe in downtown WPB. My husband is a huge fan of the latte and fruit pastry and will bring any and everyone there to try it. Brunch at Almond Restaurant in Palm Beach is always perfect before heading to the beach. Avocado Grill is delish for just about any meal and Avocado Cantina has the world’s best birria tacos! If you head west, it is always fun to check out the equestrian and polo events in Wellington.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to be able to pinpoint one person who has helped to get me where I am today. The truth is, there are so many! From mentors in my early years in business to family who has supported me, clients who believe in me and the many healthcare providers who have helped me… there has been a village to help get me where I am. I’d have to say what I am most grateful for is the support of my family and friends. If it was not for their unwavering support, their candid truthfulness and their being there for me when I needed them most, my life would likely be on a whole other path. I believe strongly in supporting others the way you wish to be supported. I try to surround myself with people who I know would not only be there for me at the drop of a hat, but ones that challenge my way of thinking, respect differences and teach me something new every single day. It is strong thinking, the ability to be flexible and roll with whatever life throws at you, and to be considerate and compassionate to those around you that I hope to instill in my daughters, and nieces and nephews. Life will always give you challenges, it is how you handle them (and how those around you handle it) that brings you out on the other side.
